The letters AEINRST are the most fruitful letters to have as they form the most 7 and 8 letter bingos. Any time you can play off a reasonable score and leave combinations of these letters, ideally 1 vowel to 2 consonants or 2 vowels to 3 consonants then the probabilities are working in your favour to potentially bingo next turn. You can still pick up crap of course, but that´s part of the luck and unpredictability of the game. You also need to consider the texture of the board, is it open for bingos or closed down as there´s nothing worse than seeing a bingo and nowhere to place it.

I try to ensure I have some kind of balance in my rack leave in terms of vowels and consonants although it doesn´t always work out that way. I would never pass up the opportunity to play ZA for 64, even if the rest of my rack was IIUUV, but I´m probably looking at swapping tiles next turn.

The things I look for in rack leave are to split up duplicate letters as they reduce flexibility to make words and also to split up bad tile combinations like UV or UW. So in a rack of ILNNSUV, I would be trying to offload either U or V (or both) and playing off one of the N´s. A play of VULN might not score tons but the rack leave of INS is a pretty good foundation for your next turn if you pick up a reasonably.

The downside of keeping a good probability rack leave is that it´s full of 1 point tiles and when you draw more 1 point tiles and don´t have a bingo, you will often find scoring very difficult. You then face the dilemma of playing off a couple tiles for 10 points and keeping a good rack leave or playing off more letters for maybe 20 but destroying a fairly promising rack.

There are other considerations towards the end of a game where you may hold the last of a particular letter. So if all the blanks, S and N are used except for the N on your rack and QI is on the board, then you are the only person who can hook that which may be a bingo lane only you can access or some other scoring play that only you can exploit. The value of your N is now far greater than it normally is and you wouldn´t necessarily want to play it off too cheaply somewhere else.
