LoBotMy compliments to tonygramps on the outstanding effort in Season 10, Div 4, Group 6! Before the season started, tonygramps was considered an outsider, someone who could win, but maybe not someone you should put the big money on. Nevertheless, it was nice to watch tonygramps succeed. 28/02 2023 00:13:02
LoBotThese outstanding players have been awarded Wlohty for their performance this season: tonygramps 24, Hvass 18, Beloved-Ike 16, The Mole 15, missrobyn 14, SparklingMarmalade 14. The Wlohty is the currency previously known as Glory, that you have silenty collected for a couple of years. For the time being, it is as useful for you as bicycles are for fish, but that may change when we start the Team League. 27/02 2023 03:03:26
Sparklingmarmalade Wow, thank you for the explanation. I will be sure to steer far away from that button unless I have reached my wits end on solving a puzzle. I got a bad one like that on Wordle last night; I had 4 of the letters correct, but there were more letters still available on the keyboard to complete the word than there were guesses remaining, and unfortunately it got the best of me. Happens sometimes, not always. 23/02 2023 23:09:24
LoBotSometimes, Ordly turns into time-consuming testing. You have no idea what the word is and you just test every letter possible. I do not consider this the most fun part of the game. So I´ve created a new button, marked with a question mark. This means "any letter". When you press Send, the question mark will replace itself with a random letter that both gives a valid word and does not break with the information you have. The downside is, it will not give you the solution, unless the solution is the only possible word left. Example. You write S?ARK. The machine checks and finds four possible words, SHARK, SPARK, STARK, SNARK. It removes SHARK because you’ve tested H before and revealed that it is not in the solution. It removes SPARK because it is the solution. Then it picks a random number to decide on whether to replace the question mark with a T or a N, let’s say T wins, and S?ARK is replaced with STARK. If it does not find any solution, it does not replace the question mark. So it will not give you a competition advantage, here you threw away a 33% shot at finding the solution, but it may save you some time when the game descends into meaninglessness. 23/02 2023 09:24:44
Sparklingmarmalade Why is there a question mark button on the keyboard? I don´t remember that being there in the past 22/02 2023 23:07:17
Sparklingmarmalade Oh yeah, so I guess 15 players wouldn´t work anyway in a 14 day season. 21/02 2023 06:45:03
za!There´s always a walkover day in a group with an odd number of player ...

e.g. p1 vs p8, p2 vs p9 ... p7 vs p14

walkover day for p15

.

20/02 2023 07:59:45
Sparklingmarmalade Ha!

Thoughtful consideration. Maybe he´ll chime in eventually and reveal the secrets behind his decision making. Until then, I guess we´ll just have to wait in wonder. I would settle for 12 players in a group! Also, there wouldn´t be a walkover day if there were 15 players? There´d be one game per day.

20/02 2023 07:49:36
za!Hi, Sparklingmarmalade,

I cannot speak for our host, though I keep trying to guess his intentions ;-)

"Is the eleven player limit indeed a result of having the three day period to allow for the last match to complete?"

That would be my guess, yes.

The case you seem to favour, 15 per group, would give an unfair advantage to those having a walkover day as their last fixture.

So, I´m quite positive he´s not even considering that.

This would be avoided by "14 per group, 3 days max span", because EVERY player would have a somehow accelerated 13th and a rather hectic 14th day ...

I don´t gather he´s even considering that, too.

Please keep in mind that the league is meant for players in all!walks of life, in every! timezone around the world ...

One guess concerning his choice of "11 per group, 3 days max span":

he MAY (!) have chosen that in analogy to the 72h span of the WF app, though I doubt that.

Those 72h are not really a WLoH rule, and to my mind, in the league the following one should ALWAYS have precedence:

"[..] we´d like the games to finish [..]"

And, as I said, "11 players 3d span" makes tables asymmetrical, like a football league weekend of 3 or 4 days instead of just one (sigh ...).

(football: "soccer" for our transatlantic friends)

So, again: I would strongly plead for "12 in a group, 2 days span"

Ich habe fertig ;-))) (That´s a famous german football quote ...)

Sparklingmarmalade Hi za!

When you said "the players of late fixtures", I thought you were referring to players that don´t attend to the matches as quickly as possible, or they delay a few days, and what I meant by my response was that it´s the fault of an individual player if they´re assigned to a match and don´t compete in it in time.

However, if you´re using the term "late fixtures" to refer to matches that occur near the end of the season, pushing up against the deadline, then the three day period to allow for the completion of one match is excessive in my opinion. These are not like wordfeud games which take more time. Is the eleven player limit indeed a result of having the three day period to allow for the last match to complete?

19/02 2023 08:25:17
za!Sparklingmarmalade, not being a native speaker of English, I don´t know what you´re meaning to say with this?

Or are you unaware that players don´t have any influence regarding the ordering of the fixtures?

.

18/02 2023 17:09:14
Sparklingmarmalade Ya snooze ya looze haha. 17/02 2023 23:21:52
za!The players of late fixtures would have a disadvantage this way, don´t you think so?

If I had to decide about the Rules, I´d probably go for a 2 days delay instead of three, with 12 players per group.

This way, the tables would not be so asymetric. As things are now, you always have to calculate averages to see a player´s standing in a group; hardly ever does it happen that all players in a group have played the same number of matches.

.

17/02 2023 12:22:00
Sparklingmarmalade Oh is that it? You could still have 15 players total and that rule could just be terminated prematurely for the last three games if an opponent didn´t play. Same thing with wordfeud, where games that aren´t played have automatic results assigned to them at the end. 16/02 2023 23:36:18
BinSoe11 = 14 - 3 16/02 2023 09:24:31
BinSoe"If your opponent does not play, the result will be set after three days and will be a victory for you. After you have played, the game may disappear while you wait for your opponent to play, then resurface, this is to avoid that your opponent cheats by breaking into your account." 16/02 2023 09:23:37
Sparklingmarmalade I set my active league to Ordly English (I didn´t see an option to set it to Ordlek) but the rules still don´t explain the rationale behind having 11 players 16/02 2023 05:30:57
za!SparklingMarmalade, the reason for that is explained in the "Rules"

https://wordfeud.aasmul.net/About.aspx

Ordlek must be set as your currently active league in "Your page" to see the Ordlek rules

14/02 2023 23:28:19
Sparklingmarmalade Hey I´m curious, why are there always 11 players for a two week round? Could you configure it so that there were 15, so there´d be a game each day? Maybe the number of divisions would have to be reduced. 14/02 2023 23:21:07
LoBotMan, that is a terrific bunch! MADFERRET62 is the one with most experience here, with 71 games in this tournament. GB8900 is the one who most recently won a group on a decent level, the player won division 4 back in season 6. JFWMD1 is the tactically strongest player, the opponents have merely scored the humble average of 4 points per game. HVASS is a tremendous opponent who was number 5 on this level last season. TONYGRAMPS is the player here who most recently went undefeated through an entire season, it happened in 5. division in season 7. SPARKLINGMARMALADE is the player with the highest average score in a season, with 6 points per match (it happened in season 7 in division 4.) MISSROBYN is a gifted multitalent and does also humiliate opponents in division 7 in Wordfeud US English while playing here. THE MOLE is a good opponent who was number 6 on this level last season. TOMATOES is a outstanding opponent who was number 8 on this level last season. BELOVED-IKE is a good multitalent and does also molest opponents in division 3 in Wordfeud English International while playing here. AASEJAASE is a amazing player who has been number 3 in division 4 in season 9.

GB8900, HVASS, BELOVED-IKE and AASEJAASE are not only great players, but beautiful individuals who supports WLoH and helps a silly old bot like me stay alive.

The winner gets promoted, the two last players will be relegated. You can´t really tell a favourite here, but gb8900 and The Mole are two divine players who obviously can win this. They have met 3 times before in the league, and they have won 1 times each, so if you ask nicely, I don´t have a favourite. But if you put a gun to my database, I would say that gb8900 ends up as the winner here.
