LoBotAnd it is finally decided, Carl_Magnus has won Season 89, Div 7, Group 59! Many had expected kgerner to win this group, but personally, I have always had faith in Carl_Magnus. 31/10 2015 05:10:31
Carl_Magnus*nick 30/10 2015 03:30:38
Carl_MagnusCheers guys. Just managed to Novi it at the end there! See you all again soon I expect. 30/10 2015 03:30:20
steve2L8bad luck cheesecakehatstand....carl_magnus was a very late starter who came strong and just pippped you by 17 points 30/10 2015 03:20:18
Karma19 Woops!!! Internet problems here!!! 25/10 2015 21:09:53
Karma19 And I like guessing words!!! Although it can be a bit time consuming sometimes... I like especially like the happy surprise of having guessed a word that gave good points... :) 25/10 2015 21:08:47
Karma19 @Tydfil... Thank you! 25/10 2015 21:02:24
tydfilHi funnydoc. Words that are valid in WF are the same whether you are playing a tournament game or not. There are different dictionaries. Zo is valid in the English International dictionary. Zo is not valid in the US dictionary which is the one you must have been playing with in your non tournament game. 23/10 2015 14:47:51
funnydocCheesecake - what I´m saying is that I used ZO in another game not in the tournament and it was invalid.

23/10 2015 14:35:32
tydfilHi cheesecake I shall sleep easier in my bed safe in the knowledge you are not wishing my demise - at least not in a ditch;)) On a more serious note, it may be worth pointing out that a lot of American spellings e.g color are also allowed in the English International dictionary. I feel sure we will meet up in the league and look forward to it - please remember that I would prefer to win;)) 23/10 2015 11:15:05
CheesecakehatstandHi funnydoc, Zo or even Dzho, is quite often used in Scrabble, word games and crosswords. It is a matter of dictionaries as others have commented. I spell colour this way, I would consider color to be wrong! An American would choose to differ! (would be wrong though!) 23/10 2015 08:33:44
CheesecakehatstandI wouldn´t wish you to "die in a ditch" I regret that you declined my invitation to a game, perhaps we will meet in the league! Good luck! 23/10 2015 08:21:45
monty022Funnydoc, at the risk of simply repeating what Tydfil said. It must be a US dictionary match. ZO is accepted in international English but invalid in US dictionary. Similarly JA is good in international but not accepted in US dictionary. That will be why it was rejected. Check the dictionary in play for that particular game. Cheers 22/10 2015 21:42:38
funnydocCheesecake - my question is based on a word you used in our game -- ZO. I´d never seen it before. I tried using it in a non- tournament game and was told it was invalid. 22/10 2015 16:29:22
tydfilHi again cheesecake:) I have no wish to die In a ditch over details but you posted: ´ When playing Scrabble etc live you should always state spelling and meaning/definition before play!´ I was simply pointing out that the statement is not factual. Re ´self evident´... if a word is placed on a Scrabble board then the way you are spelling it is, indeed, self evident whether or not it is correct. I understand what you say re learning but that is not the issue.

Re funnydoc - I don´t think it is about online play in particular. I suspect it is about US versus International dictionaries. We may take a while but we will get there.

Thank you very much for inviting me to a game and I regret declining. I play friendlies with 4 people and have no capacity nor inclination to take on additional games. Good luck in this season - I am having a disaster:)

21/10 2015 07:20:48
CheesecakehatstandHi tydfil, spelling cannot be "self evident" it is either right or wrong by the dictionary/ies used. I agree re Scrabble champion comment, however simple memorisation defeats the purpose of the game in improving language both language skills and knowledge! It is not about memorisation. I know it is not a requirement to actually know the meanings of words played but surely defeats the purpose if you don´t, or don´t learn! Given the nature of online play though can´t understand funnydoc´s problem, word is accepted or not, system decides! 21/10 2015 05:55:31
tydfilHi again funnydoc. A word would not be valid in a league game if not valid in a game outside the league. I am unclear about what gives rise to the confusion. Which word are you referring to? 21/10 2015 03:25:18
funnydocSorry but I still don´t understand why a word would be valid in a league game and not in another game if we´re going by the scrabble dictionary. 21/10 2015 02:57:56
WLoH Int JudgeSome good points made here. I agree it is not a flaw as they are two different games meaning the way I play them varies slightly. I enjoy both and tend to score more in wordfeud. 20/10 2015 23:45:41
tydfilHi cheesecake. I don´t see it as a flaw because nobody has an advantage over anybody else - each player has the same opportunity to try words out. I don´t know where you play Scrabble but a) the spelling is self evident when a word is played so need to declare and b) there is no requirement to know the definition of a word. A past Scrabble world champion (English language) was a guy from Thailand who spoke/understood hardly any English but memorised words:) 20/10 2015 23:18:43
CheesecakehatstandThe flaw with playing WF is that it does allow you to speculate (guess effectively) if you are unsure re a spelling or if a word exists. When playing Scrabble etc live you should always state spelling and meaning/definition before play! 20/10 2015 22:50:10
tydfil@funnydoc - apologies. My post was ambiguous. I meant if you are playing a league game then check that the dictionary is US/International as appropriate. Wordfeud uses the Scrabble list - for International CSW12. A 2015 Scrabble list was released in September but has not yet been incorporated into WF to my knowledge - will stand to be corrected?:) I use a hard copy of Collins Ultimate Scrabble Dictionary and Word List (@Collins commission welcome!). When I say use - that is rare because I am too lazy to swot:(. I also have it on my Kindle but is not user friendly - should have believed the reviews! I keep meaning to check out an app version.

@karma19 the aforesaid Collins list gives the definition of WILI as ´spirit´. That didn´t satisfy me so... my first Google search revealed that in Slavonic/East German legend WILI is the spirit of a betrothed girl who as been jilted. It is especially associated with the ballet Giselle. Lola every day is a school day;)

20/10 2015 14:12:22
funnydocSo does that mean that a word can be valid in a tournament game but not in a non-tournament game? Is there a word feud dictionary? If so, where do I find it? Thanks for the info! 20/10 2015 10:52:25
Karma19 What happens if a word, i.e., wili, cannot be found in any dictionary? On Google says it´s a radio station!!! Anyone care explain what that word means? 20/10 2015 10:13:11
tydfilHi funnydoc - some words allowed in International are not allowed in the US dictionary. If you are referring to a league game then I suggest you check that the dictionary is the correct one:) 20/10 2015 00:58:26
funnydocHas anyone seen an instance where a word gets credit in one game and then is invalid in another game?

20/10 2015 00:12:59
LoBotWelcome to WLoH! The e-mails we send out frequently get caught by spam filters, so some of your opponents may not be aware that they play a league match. Please mention it in the chat of the game when you play them. Read our Rules page if you have any questions. And have fun! 18/10 2015 05:35:55
LoBotYes! I love it when we gather such a wonderful bunch! NYAKOSH is the most mature player in this party, with 8 seasons in this tournament. CARL_MAGNUS is the player with the highest average score in a season (only counting the last 20 seasons), with 467 points per match (it happened in season 86 in division 7.) KARMA19 is a amazing player who has been number 5 in division 7 in season 88. GEM200 is in superb form and was just promoted from division 8. STEVE2L8 is a virtuoso opponent who was number 3 on this level last season. FUNNYDOC is the most frequent winner in the group in the last 20 seasons, with a frequency of 11.0 victories per loss. KGERNER is the player here who most recently went undefeated through an entire season, it happened in 8. division in season 88. CHEESECAKEHATSTAND is a divine player who has been number 1 in division 8 in season 88.

The winner gets promoted, the two last players will be relegated. If I were to guess, I would say that kgerner wins the season.
